Feoffment by Thomas Sandwith of St. Mariegate, York, gent., and George Reames of Wheldrake, husbandman, to John Vavasour of Spaldington, esq., of a messuage and oxgang at Spaldington once occupied by Sir Peter Vavasour at the annual value of 6s and parcel of the lands of Thickhead Priory, granted by James I to George Salter and John Williams. Yorkshire Archaeological Society, Reference MD175 - The Vavasour Papers at the Yorkshire Archaeological Society Archives consists of one archive box containing 1 small A5-sized packet, 2 large A4-size packets, and 1 large A5-sized envelope.

1633 - 1636

Peter Vavasour, Esq. of Spaldington and  his wife Ann, daughter of Sir Thomas Gower of Stittenham near Malton in North Yorkshire, had two  sons:

John married Catherine Ackroyd of Foggathorpe.  Their only child, Mary, died unmarried in 1655.  

John died c 1678. [2]

Thomas married Dorothy, daughter of Sir Ferdinand Leigh of Middleton near Leeds.  They also had a daughter, Mary.  

It was through Mary that the Vavasour ownership of Spaldington continued.

Richard, son of John Vavasour of Spaldington, was baptised at Bubwith on 7th April 1633.  [2]

Frances, daughter of Peter Vavasour of Spaldington, was baptised at Bubwith.  [2]

1679

The manor descended in the Vavasour family until the last male heir, Thomas Vavasour, Esq., died in 1679, leaving an only daughter and heir, Mary Vavasour, who married Sir Ralph Assheton of Middleton,  Lancs,  Baronet. Their eldest daughter and co-heir, Anne, married Humphrey Trafford, Esq., 5th Aug 1701, in Manchester. Humphrey and Anne had a daughter and co-heir, Elizabeth Trafford, who married Mail Yates, of Mail, Lancs, and had an elder daughter and co-heir, Anne Assheton Yates.  [1]
