Howdenshire
Archaeological Society
Howdenshire Archaeological Society (HAS) is a relatively new society dedicated to exploring the archaeology of Howdenshire. We welcome anyone who is interested in the history and archaeology of the local area. If you'd like to be involved please get in touch, or come along to one of our events. You will be very welcome.
Some people might feel a little nervous about joining an Archaeological Society, fearing that dodgy knees or a bad back might make joining in a dig impossible. But archaeology is about much more than digging holes and getting down into trenches. Finds need washing, recording and photographing. Sites need measuring, surveying and drawing, and reports need writing. Plus, of course, every site has a history which needs researching - online, in books and documents, and at archives. There's always plenty to do without even touching a trowel !
